Apple Trees for this region and zone:
Take the tired old Golden Delicious and then improves it in almost every way. Start with a pleasant orangey-pink blush on its yellow background, then add a full, rich flavor.
Fuji is surely one of the more attractive modern apple varieties. Its main characteristic is the lovely pink speckled flush over a yellow-green background. It is also crisp and juicy, with dull white flesh which snaps cleanly.
Crisp and snappy! One of your favorite grocery store apples is even better homegrown. Fruit is delectably sweet-tart, which makes it a great fresh-eating apple.
The Granny Smith is a tip-bearing apple cultivar, which originated in Australia in 1868. It is named after Maria Ann Smith.
Granny Smith apples are famously green apples with a tart flavor that makes your mouth water. It is one of the best for baking your favorite apple recipe
Honeycrisp apples have a yellow background covered with a red to pink blush and speckled with small lenticels. Their creamy white flesh is exceptionally crisp and aromatic. A balanced content of sugar and acid gives Honeycrisp apples a pleasant sweet-tart flavor that varies in strength depending upon the maturity of the apple
Liberty apples are medium-sized with a dark red striations over a sometimes barely visible yellow background. The skin is speckled with small yellow lenticels, contributing to the overall flavor of the apple. Its yellow-toned flesh is crisp and juicy with a fine-grain texture. The Liberty apple is sweet like a McIntosh, yet more tart and has a flavor profile very much its own including some hints of citrus and melon.
Pink Lady® apples are elongated and have an asymmetrical shape. The skin is a vivid green covered in a pinkish blush which becomes a deeper shade of red where the apple was exposed to more sun. Pink Lady® apples have a crunchy texture and a tart taste with a sweet finish. The white flesh is juicy and crisp, and offers a “fizz-like” burst of flavor.
The Yellow Delicious is one of the country’s most popular apples, and for good reason: Each bite of a Yellow Delicious Apple is extra juicy, crisp and sweet.
The Ayers Pear tree is a fruiting tree that grows to heights of 20-25′, with spreads of 10-15′ wide at maturity. It is considered a moderate grower. The Ayers pear tree consists of strong, vertical branches that need very little pruning.
Pineapple pear trees are hardy, tough and hard to kill once established. These trees produce bushels of pears that are perfect for cooking or canning. Although the trees are fairly easy to grow, you must add two or more additional cultivars for the tree to bear fruit, cross-pollination is necessary.
Big, bold, blushed fruit. This beautiful, Bartlett-type pear is soft and juicy without being mushy. The tree is disease-resistant to fire blight and will bear fruit for years. A strong pollinator for other pear varieties.
The #1 pear worldwide! First introduced in 1797, this multi-purpose pear is a long-standing favorite of orchard growers and fruit gardeners alike. Starts bearing at a young age and is very productive. Fruit features a smooth, firm texture and a juicy, spicy taste. Harvest in late August. Best pollinator: Moonglow
